Period poverty is estimated to cause one in 10 girls to drop out of school across Africa, as they do not attend school during menstruation, which accounts for approximately 10-20% of school days, due to a lack of adequate hygiene equipment. Thus, they fall behind in learning and drop out after a while. Dropping out of school also increases the risk of child marriages and pregnancy at a younger age.
