2011

Adama was born in 2011, she is the youngest with four brothers and a sister. They live in the poor quarter of Yeumbeul Nord in Dakar, Senegal. Her father left the family, did not support them, disappeared. Adama started 3rd grade this year, her mother can’t pay tuition at all. The family lives off what their neighbors give them and the mother sells water on the street (in Senegal, they sell water in small plastic bags on the side of the road) and tries to care for her children this way. The family lives in 2 rented rooms, the water is carried from a nearby well. Adama loves going to school, geography, history and math are her favorite subjects (this is taught as part of a subject called Environmental Studies). At home she helps her mother carry water, do the wash (wash by hand in laundries), and clean. She loves to read, she usually reads borrowed textbooks, she has no other books (textbooks). She studies very well, her academic score is 8.57 / 10 - in Senegal 10 is the best grade. She really would love to have school supplies, textbooks and clothes.
